Advancement of one’s professional career cannot, in my view, be a worthy goal unto itself. An individual needs to have clearer view of more significant goals in order to really make an impact. I am afraid that the fact that the advancement of one’s career is seen nowadays as a goal unto itself is one of the roots of a less worthy society we are all sharing.
